2. Build & Create

Looking established is cheaper than becoming established.

Buyers judge capability from the evidence in front of them. Usually that's a logo, a truck, a business card, and a website.

Who This Is For

We do brand and identity work for businesses that have outgrown their first logo. It's time when:

  • Your logo was made quickly, cheaply, or by a relative, and you've started avoiding showing it
  • Your materials don't look like they came from the same company
  • You're charging more than you used to and it shows in the work but not in the packaging
  • You're merging, renaming, or moving into a market where nobody knows you
  • You keep losing to competitors who are worse but look better

What's Included

What a brand engagement produces

Positioning

Who you're for, what you do differently, and why anyone should believe it. Written down and agreed before a single visual decision. Design without this is decoration.

Logo and visual system

A primary mark plus the variations you'll actually need — horizontal, stacked, icon, single-color, reversed. Delivered in every format for print, web, embroidery, and signage.

Color and type

A palette with defined roles, checked for accessibility, and a typeface pairing you can license and use everywhere.

Voice and tone

How you sound in writing — on the site, in email, on social. Includes the words you use and the words you avoid.

Brand guidelines

A document your future designer, printer, and web developer can follow without asking. This is what stops the brand drifting the moment someone else touches it.

Applied assets

Business cards, letterhead, email signatures, social profile art, vehicle graphics, signage, and templates for whatever you produce regularly.

What you own

Everything. Full source files, full rights, in writing. You should confirm that with any design firm before you engage one — it is not universal, and finding out later is expensive.

How Brand Work Is Quoted

How brand engagements are quoted

Quoted per project. What moves the number is scope — a logo refresh sits at one end, a full identity system with positioning, guidelines, and applied assets across print, signage, and web at the other.

Larger projects are staged with a deposit up front and the balance on delivery.

We'll scope it on a call. Brand is the hardest service to quote sight-unseen, because two businesses asking for "a logo" often need completely different engagements.

Objections

Straight answers

Is a logo really worth that?

A logo on its own, probably not. What you're buying is the system — every place your business appears looking deliberate rather than assembled. The logo is the smallest piece of it and the one people name because it's the visible one.

Can't I get one online for almost nothing?

You can, and for a business testing an idea that's a reasonable call. What you're accepting is a mark that may already exist, that you may not exclusively own, that has no system around it, and that will need replacing at exactly the point replacing it is most disruptive.

How many concepts do I get?

Two or three considered directions, each with reasoning attached, rather than a wall of options. Presenting twenty is a way of asking you to do the deciding — and you're paying us for judgment, not a menu.

What if I hate all of them?

Then we didn't understand the brief and we go back to it. That's on us. In practice it's rare, because the positioning work happens first and rules out most of the wrong directions before anyone draws anything.

Questions we get

How long does it take?

Typically four to eight weeks. Positioning and revision rounds set the pace more than production does.

Do you trademark the logo?

No — that's legal work and we're not attorneys. We'll run preliminary searches to avoid obvious conflicts and recommend you engage a trademark attorney before you file. We'll supply whatever files they need.

Can you keep part of our existing brand?

Often the right answer, particularly if you have recognition worth keeping. An evolution costs less than a rebuild and doesn't strand the customers who already know you.

Will you redo our website too?

Usually the next step, since the site is where the identity gets its heaviest use. Quoted separately.

What formats do we get?

Vector source files, plus exports for print, web, embroidery, signage, and single-color reproduction. Everything a vendor could ask you for.

Tell us what's not landing.

We'll tell you whether you need a rebuild, a refresh, or just better application of what you already have.
